Institute of Medicine Recommends Birth Control Coverage

ACN Director Charlotte Taft has written a statement endorsing the Institute of Medicine's recommendations about preventive health and women's health, including birth control, cancer surveillance, STI testing, and domestic violence prevention.

The Abortion Care Network, a 501(c)(3) organization of independent abortion providers and allies, is in STRONG support of the recommendations for women’s healthcare of the Institute of Medicine. IOM has created a list of eight health care services which it suggests should be added to the existing list of services available for insured women without co pays and deductibles. Their recommendations include screening for diabetes for pregnant women; support for new mothers for breastfeeding; and access to all FDA approved methods of family planning all with no additional cost if they are insured.

Although abortion is NOT funded in any way by this proposal, women’s healthcare providers care deeply about all aspects of women’s health. Healthy women help make healthy families.
