Abortion Care Network Condemns Pennsylvania Law
ACN Director Charlotte Taft comments on Pennsylvania law requiring abortion clinics to comply with Ambulatory Surgery Center regs.
December 23 2011
Governor Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania signed into law SB 732, a Draconian piece of legislation intended to make abortion unavailable to all Pennsylvania women. The law is entirely politically motivated and the legislature of Pennsylvania should be ashamed of siding with the opponents of legal abortion rather than with those who uphold the rights and well being of women.
SB 732 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Under the guise of ‘safety for women’ the sponsors and supporters of this bill ignore the already excellent safety record of abortion. SB732 is a TRAP law—Targeted Regulations Against Abortion Providers—the latest fashion in strategies from those who have brought you the murder of 8 people who work in the field of abortion; millions of dollars in arson and bombing and acid damages; the intentional harassment and shaming of women; junk science and outright lies about fetal pain and the totally disproved link between breast cancer and abortion; fake clinics that lure in the most vulnerable women with cruel promises of funding; the political enshrinement of one religious view of abortion; and myriad other violent, cruel and dishonest strategies. To serve the crusade to make abortion illegal or unavailable, women are being lied to in every state and commonwealth across the nation.
TRAP laws attempt to impose unnecessary architectural and bureaucratic regulations on abortion clinics that are already providing safe services. Laws that are intended to decrease the availability of health care services and increase their cost are a slap in the face to every citizen who depends on elected officials to improve their quality of life. At a time in history in which most of America’s families are struggling with finances, these laws are not just unnecessary, they are unpatriotic. And it is clear that these legislators, the Governor included, have little regard for the moral authority of women.
